POLICE are aiming to drive criminals off Warwickshire’s roads.

Operation Tavaco has been going for two years in a co-ordinated effort to seek out criminals using the county’s road network.

While catching criminals on the road is a 24/7 job for the force, at weekends they have the chance to pool resources and use a mix of plain-clothes officers in unmarked vehicles and high visibility patrolling.

For the latest weekend, 26 of us from different departments, including the rural crime team, neighbourhood officers, traffic and the Special Constabulary teamed up.

They arrested two arrested two men on suspicion of drug offences, recovered a stolen vehicle and also identified three cloned vehicles. They also completed nearly 300 Police National Computer checks and issued five traffic offence reports.

Sgt Johnny Howells said: “This operation demonstrates our commitment to tackling vehicle crime across the county. We are targeting offenders, recovering stolen property, and making arrests.

“Our presence over the weekend aimed not only to disrupt criminal activity but also to reassure local communities that we are taking action.

“We will continue to run these operations to ensure offenders are held accountable and residents feel safe.”
