Stratford MP raises concerns about A46 with Highways chief

MP MANUELA Perteghella is calling for actions not words after raising concerns about the delays to road improvements along the A46 with highways chiefs.

The Stratford MP has received a formal response from the chief executive of National Highways after writing to raise serious concerns about long-standing safety issues and delays to road improvements along the route between Stratford and Evesham.

In her letter, sent earlier this summer, Dr Perteghella called on the agency to take urgent steps to address residents’ concerns. She highlighted repeated delays to key junction upgrades, poor communication with local stakeholders, and the lack of a clear long-term plan for the A46, a stretch of road that local councillors and parish groups have described as dangerous and increasingly congested.

In response, the National Highways CEO acknowledged the importance of the A46 corridor and confirmed that the agency is continuing to work closely with local authorities, developers and Midlands Connect. He also committed to improving engagement with local representatives and sharing more information about progress on planned schemes.

Dr Perteghella said: “Residents have been incredibly patient, but they rightly want to see action, not just words.

“For years now, local people have raised safety concerns, questioned the lack of speed enforcement, and called for proper investment in the A46. I’ve spoken with parish councils, community groups and commuters who feel they’ve been kept in the dark for too long.

“I welcome the fact that National Highways have replied and acknowledged the need for better communication. But what people really want is a sense that things are moving forward with realistic timeframes, proper funding and the transparency we’ve been asking for.”
