Plans refused for a Costa drive-thru next to a Warwick cemetery

‘UNNEIGHBOURLY’ plans for a Costa drive-thru next to a cemetery in Warwick have been refused.

Members of Warwick District Council’s planning committee threw out the planning application for a drive-thru facility on land east of Birmingham Road and Haywood Road Junction on Tuesday (October 7).

They considered the proposal on a site just metres from Warwick cemetery and a short distance from dwellings would have a negative impact on the surrounding area.

The proposed operating hours were to have been 6am until 10pm.

Warwick Town Council objected due to a potential Increase in the already heavy traffic levels in the area, noise levels for residents and the impacts of idling traffic on air quality levels.

Budbrooke Parish Council objected due to the proposed site being adjacent to the cemetery and considered the application “unneighbourly”.

There were also 166 letters of objection from the public.

There were, however, six letters of support stating this area of Warwick was undeveloped for social interaction and a lot of local people would use it.
