CHAMPIONSHIPS in chainsaw carving and tree climbing were just some of the highlights of the UK’s largest timber show held in Alcester.

The APF Show is the country’s largest woodland, tree and timber show and this year it was held on Ragley Estate from Thursday September 22 to Saturday September 24.

And the event was anything but wooden, with the World Poleclimbing Championship, the European Chainsaw Carving Championship and the UK Open Tree Climbing Championship all taking place over the three days, as well as the British Open Fencing and World Log to Leg Race competitions.

There were over 300 exhibitors including 25 craftspeople in the woodlands crafts area demonstrating skills including clog making, willow weaving and pole lathe turning.

While there was also be a display of working machinery – including the latest £400,000 state-of-the-art timber harvester – covering two and a half miles of the estate.
