RAIN did not stop hundreds of people coming to the Alcester Roman Heritage Centre last Saturday for its 20th anniversary celebrations.

More than 400 visitors enjoyed a variety of activities which included dressing up as a Roman and lots of Roman-inspired crafts and games.

Several local organisations, including Alcester Day Care and schools helped to mark the occasion by making and decorating Roman shields which were on display.

Coffee and cake was enjoyed, courtesy of Orangemabel tea room and there was a group of Romano-British re-enactors showcasing their skills.

Susan Juned, chair of Roman Alcester Heritage Centre, said: “We had a wonderful day and are very proud of what the museum has been able to achieve.

“The children really enjoyed dressing up, making mosaics and decorating a big display shield with coloured buttons.

“Our thanks go to all those who helped make the founding of the museum possible 20 years ago and our dedicated trustees.

“Also to the many committed volunteers who help us to run it, including our school’s team which has welcomed hundreds of children from across the Midlands over the last two decades.”
