NHS staff saddle up to dodge the traffic in Stratford

ENTERPRISING NHS staff have been saddling up to avoid the traffic in Stratford.

Physiotherapists Dan and Rich have been using e-cargo bikes to visit patients while the town was gridlocked due to roadworks.

The free bikes were made available to the South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust staff members as part of Stratford District Council’s scheme set up in 2022, in collaboration with the Energy Saving Trust and local company, Pashley Cycles.

Rich said: “My heart has been at peace while cycling past stationary traffic, congested by multiplications of roadworks in Stratford over the last few months. The e-bike has allowed me to notice things I would have missed while driving in a car, but more importantly I get seen by the general public, who are interested to know about the initiative and that the NHS are contributing to the Green Plan.”

SDC leader Coun Susan Juned said: “We are very pleased to see the e-cargo bikes being used widely by a variety of partners across the district. There are more bikes available in our fleet for registered businesses and community groups to hire for free.”
