New housing scheme in Wootton Wawen for young local families

Stratford Editorial 10th Jun, 2024   0

YOUNG local families are at the heart of plans for a new housing scheme in Wootton Wawen.

The scheme will see 29 new homes built, as well as a new play area and safer walking routes to school for children.

The homes, which will be sustainable and built to Future Homes Standards, will be specifically for a mix of local people and young families.

Fourteen of the homes will be reserved for families with primary school aged children with a local connection, with this restriction designed to keep prices affordable for young families to remain in the Wootton Wawen community.

The homes will be a mix of two, three, four and five-bed properties, including bungalows, and will feature heat pumps and solar panels. The development will include 40 per cent affordable homes.

Deeley Homes, behind the development, has also proposed to build a new play area which is open to the public for all children living in the village, something which the parish council have been working hard to deliver.

The new natural play area will be immediately adjacent to the parish hall, with an off-road walking route to a new entrance to the school alongside a new staff car-park, which will also be used as a drop-off area for parents.

To make Wootton Wawen even safer for young families, Deeley Homes has also proposed the introduction of speed reduction measures on Alcester Road to reduce high speeds on approach to the village.

The proposals include enhancing the gateway feature into the village, with a change in speed limit emphasised before the bend, a digital sign around the bend to remind drivers about the 30mph speed limit and to give a warning about the upcoming bridge.

The access road to the development will be just over the bridge and will be lifted to ensure drivers can see over the crest of the bridge to turn safely out of the site.

A local housing survey conducted by the parish council has identified the need for 29 new homes in the village and the proposed development delivers the exact mix of homes identified in this survey.
