A COMMUNITY fridge and, potentially, a new Greenway are just some of the projects to benefit from green cash from Stratford District Council.
SDC has selected successful applicants for the first phase of its Community Climate Change Fund.
The fund was set up in November 2023 to enable SDC to aid climate change initiatives from community groups, charities and town and parish councils.
And among the recipients is Bidford Parish Council which will receive £4,500 to set up a community fridge and cafe.
A feasibilty study can now be carried out for a Greenway between Great Alne and Alcester thanks to £10,000 awarded to Great Alne Parish Council.
Snitterfield Village Hall will receive £4,696 to install an air source heat pump. Stratford Town Hall will receive £2,360 to commission a decarbonisation feasibility study, while Warwickshire Cycle Buddies has been awarded £2,174 to develop and deliver a help to cycle scheme.
The projects will be delivered between June and March 2025.
The first round of the Community Climate Change Fund had a budget of £50,000.
SDC leader Coun Susan Juned said: “There was an exceptional number of expressions of interest submitted for this project. We are extremely pleased with the community engagement and environmental improvements that will be enabled by the successful projects.
“The CCCF is one of a number of district council initiatives which aim to assist and work with local community groups and town and parish councils who want to address the climate and ecological emergencies. This is one of the aims of the Council Plan.”
