Mural brightens up the back of BHS in Stratford

THE BACK of BHS in Stratford has been brightened up with a bold new mural.

Paint Stratford, the group responsible for a host of murals across the town, decided to give the hoardings of the long-abandoned shop a colourful makeover for the benefit of residents and visitors to the town.

The graffiti art was commissioned by Stratford District Council and overseen by SDC’s economic development officer John Tonge.

It boasts geometric shapes to represent the town’s half-timbered buildings and eye-catching blooms rooted in Shakespearean imagery.

Artist Ali Glover said: “The goal was to create something instantly recognisable as Stratford-upon-Avon but with a modern street-art twist. It was designed to be experienced from all angles – providing snapshots of colour for drivers passing by and a detailed gallery for pedestrians. Top marks to anyone who can spot which local buildings and Shakespeare plays inspired the images.”

The artwork takes its place in the Stratford mural trail alongside numerous works including those at Stratford skate park, Bishopton Community Centre, Greenhill Street, Arden Street, the Visitor Information Centre and the Fred Winter Centre.
