More health screening events taking place in Stratford district

MORE residents can now take advantage of health screening in the district.

Since May, Stratford District Council has been working together with the Graham Fulford Charitable Trust offering a series of health screening events for both men and women.

The events enable men and women to have a number of health tests from a simple blood test, allowing them to, where necessary, seek further advice or action via their GP.

The tests, costing £14 each and subsidised by SDC, are PSA prostate screening for men over 40 and diabetes and cholesterol for men and women aged 18 and over.

So far, 636 tests have been carried out at the events in Stratford, Studley, Southam and Alcester. A total of 373 men have taken part in the prostate cancer screening programme, with 83 referred for further tests via their GP.

The screenings for diabetes and cholesterol have also yielded important results, with 14 per cent and 75 per cent of participants respectively identified as having levels outside the normal range and advised to follow up with their GP.

The events are continuing to take place with venues added in Shipston and Henley.

The next events are on Saturday September 13 at Stratford Leisure Centre, Saturday October 11 at Shipston Scout Hut in New Street and Saturday November 22 at Henley Memorial Hall in Station Road.

The events run from 10am until 2pm at each of the locations. Visit sdc.mypsatests.org.uk/ to book a place.

SDC’s customer services spokesperson Coun Liz Coles said: “It is really good to see people taking advantage of this health screening initiative that we have organised together with the Graham Fulford Charitable Trust, offering residents across Stratford district the opportunity to access blood tests at a concessionary rate, with a focus on early detection of prostate cancer, diabetes, and high cholesterol.

“It is all part of our ongoing commitment to supporting residents in living full and healthy lives.”
