Heritage Open Days set to go ahead at some Stratford district venues

HERITAGE Open Days are still set to go ahead in Stratford district, at a selection of venues.

Organisers of the national festival, which sees buildings usually closed to the public open their doors for a limited time, have decided to go ahead with their event despite the death of the late Queen Elizabeth II on Thursday (September 8).

They posted up on their website the announcement: “With deepest respect, the festival will go ahead for local communities”.

However, some properties have decided to opt out of opening their doors in Stratford district, especially those which are places of worship.

One such venue is The Guild Chapel in Stratford which was set to display its extraordinary medieval art to the public this weekend.

It stated on its web page that the event was now cancelled.

Other attractions now keeping their doors shut are Alcester Baptist Church, Roman Alcester Museum, and Alcester War Memorial.

Venues where Heritage Open Days are still going ahead include the Guildhall in Henley and Chedham’s Yard in Wellesbourne.

Heritage Open Days run from Saturday (September 10) to Saturday September 17.

While the Dragon Boat Race, set to take to the River Avon in Stratford on Sunday (September 11), in aid of The Shakespeare Hospice, has been postponed.

A spokesperson announced it would be moved to another date yet to be confirmed.
