Lunch event to discuss how dementia friendly Stratford is

Stratford Editorial 3rd Oct, 2022   0

A FREE lunch is being hosted by Dementia Friendly Stratford to discuss the town’s approach to the illness.

Anyone with Dementia and their carers is invited to attend the event on Wednesday October 5, which has been organised to coincide with World Alzheimer’s Month.

And a key question on the table will be how to encourage the town to be more dememtia friendly.

Marie Darwen from Stratford District Council (SDC) said: “Your opinion is what counts. You can tell us what works, what could be improved. We want to hear your voices.”

The Dementia Friendly Stratford group includes representatives from SDC,Stratford Town Council, VASA, Orchestra of the Swan, Warwickshire County Council (WCC), Accessible Stratford, Everyone Active and local volunteers.

It was set up in 2019 to highlight how Stratford can lead the way in making the town an easier place to negotiate for people living with dementia and their carers.

Kirsty Holder from VASA said: “It’s an opportunity for the whole community to be involved and understand how small changes, like signs, lighting, a change of colour or types of flooring can help someone with dementia to navigate their environment more easily”.

In Stratford district there is support available including Dementia Cafés, Carers’ Cafés and Memory Clubs.
