Leamington resident calls for action against pesky pigeons

PIGEONS are proving a tale of woe for one Leamington resident.

Kevin Nayler moved into Stephenson Court near Leamington Railway Station in June 2020 and says he has been plagued by pigeons defecating on his balcony ever since.

More recently they have even started nesting under the balcony tiles.

Mr Nayler contacted Platform Housing, the social housing company responsible for the property, to see what action could be taken against the pigeons but he is still waiting for a resolution.

He explained: “A few years ago Platform Housing had a contractor attend who submitted a proposal but I believe that this was not actioned due to costs. In the last year the problem we have has dramatically increased and prevents us from using the area.

“The pigeons are messing on all three balconies that we have but more so on the balcony that overlooks the car park. To make matters worse they are now nesting under the balcony tiles as they are entering via the external down pipe hopper heads.”

Mr Nayler continued that Platform arranged for a pest control company to attend back in August and, after a few cancelled appointments, they came out and forwarded a report to Platform detailing what they deemed necessary to resolve the issue.

He has been chasing this report every week since and each time has been told it is with the asset department awaiting approval.

Mr Nayler has also contacted Warwick District Council’s environmental health department as he believes this is a health issue but they have also failed to respond.

Platform Housing has, he claims, dealt with the pigeon problem at other flats in the block.

Two flats have had some “sort of wiring” fitted to the roof while a previous tenant informed him that Platform had cleaned out the area under his balcony tiles and fitted some discs that act as a deterrent.

A spokesperson for WDC’s environment team said they were in regular contact with the landlord of the property and had set out what was required of them to resolve the issue and would be monitoring this on the resident’s behalf.

Platform Housing has also been approached for comment.
