LEAMINGTON’S peace festival is back after a five year hiatus.
It will be held in the Pump Room Gardens on Friday June 20 and Saturday June 21 and organisers say it is needed more than ever before.
The long-running festival was last held in 2019, but for various reasons including the pandemic, has not taken place since.
Leamington Festival of International Understanding and Peace started back in 1980 with the aim of promoting mutual understanding between people of different countries and cultures by putting on a programme of entertainment and demonstrations by groups of various nationalities.
Now the festival is building on these aims by including the importance of taking care of the environment, exploring sustainable living and personal wellbeing and happiness.
A full programme of events for the festival will be released soon.
The event is being organised by volunteers and more people are welcome to help out.
Organisers are also on the lookout for local talented community groups who would like to get up on the main stage and give a performance, and local businesses who would be interested in putting on taster sessions for wellness activities like Tai-Chi, Bollywood dancing or gardening.
Local businesses are also being called to sponsor the event.

A festival spokesperson said:“We set out to promote those who are working with dedication in our locality to bring a better quality of life to all people without distinction of race, religion or culture.
“Forty-five years later after the many occurrences and life challenges faced over the last five years of absence, the festival is returning as the unity and peace festival to continue on the above aims, also including taking care of the environment, exploring sustainable living and how to look after your wellbeing and create happiness for yourself and others around you, support small local talented businesses that are handcrafted, sustainable or reducing our planets waste by re-purposing, and raise awareness of local and world issues by sharing to all communities to embrace and be part of our changing world needs.”
