Laptops donated to refugees in Stratford

Stratford Editorial 20th Jul, 2023   0

MUCH-needed laptops are being provided to refugees in Stratford.

The Relief in Need Charity, which is part of the Municipal Charities of Stratford, has given ten laptops to the Welcome Here charity to support its work with locally resettled Syrian, Sudanese and Iraqi refugees.

The laptops were presented by Stratford mayor Kate Rolfe and the RINC chair Sheila Price at the Municipal Charity’s annual garden party.

Chair of Welcome Here, Roger Matthews, said: “These laptops will help children with their education including one family where two primary aged children have hearing impairment and so need access to special educational resources at home.

“Another laptop will go to a college teenager who due to disability issues accesses a lot of her education at home. Others will support parents in communicating with their children’s school and for teenagers with their school work.”

Ms Price, added the RINC still had £65,000 to give away this year to support the poor and vulnerable in Stratford.

“I am hoping that if people know of anybody in Stratford who needs our support, or if you would like to donate towards this great local cause, then you will get in touch with Doug Evans, our clerk and grants officer, on [email protected], 07767443895 or via our website https://municipal-charities.org.uk/relief-in-need-charity/#rinc-contact

High Sheriff of Warwickshire, Sophie Hilleary was also on hand to present a certificate to 88-year-old Mick Love on becoming president of Municipal Charities.

For 36 years Mick has been involved in caring for the 47 almshouse residents through his involvement on the properties committee.

The Municipal Charity’s garden party is held at Guild Cottages every year and provides the chance for residents, trustees, guests and staff to socialise.
