A KEEN runner is going the distance for Stratford Foodbank.
Dominic Elmer, senior chef consultant at Lime Hospitality based in Stratford, is limbering up to run a 50km ultra marathon.
The demanding route across the Cotswold hills is set to take place on May 3 and will see the Bearley resident push his physical and mental limits in solidarity with local people facing hardship.
Dom said: “No one in our community should have to worry about where their next meal is coming from. The foodbank is there for people at their lowest moments, and I wanted to do something that shows they’re not alone. If running 50km helps keep those doors open, it’s absolutely worth it.”
Stratford Foodbank has seen sustained high demand over the past year, with rising living costs placing increasing pressure on families, older people, and those on low incomes. With the foodbank forced to buy in more than £16,000 worth of food last year just to keep up with demand, the charity hopes Dom’s sponsored run will provide a vital boost to ensure no one in Stratford goes without.
Isla Stroyan, the foodbank’s fundraising dfficer, added: “We’re incredibly grateful to Dom. His run will make a real, practical difference at a time when demand is rising and costs are rising with it. Supporters like Dom ensure we can be there for people facing hardship in our town and surrounding villages.”
