Include Me Week focuses on fitness for Stratford residents with disabilities

INCLUSIVITY is at the heart of a week-long fitness event coming to the district.

‘Include Me Week’ is inviting people with disabilities to take part in a range of fun, healthy activities from Monday (September 23) to Friday September 27.

The first-of-its-kind event is being hosted by leisure operator Everyone Active in partnership with Stratford District Council, with the goal of ensuring everyone has the opportunity to participate in exercise.

All sessions taking place throughout the week have been adapted and designed to suit the needs and preferences of people with disabilities – showing or hidden.

From quiet swims and inclusive multisport sessions, to seated exercise and walking tennis, there is something on offer for all ages, interests and abilities.

Gym access will also be available during off-peak hours throughout the week.

The participating sites are Stratford Leisure Centre, Shipston Leisure Centre, Southam Leisure Centre, Studley Leisure Centre and The Greig Leisure Centre in Alcester.

SDC’s environmental spokesperson Coun Lorraine Grocott said: “We are looking forward to seeing people come and take part in our first week-long event. This event will break down barriers and create a welcoming environment for people of all abilities to take part in and enjoy physical activity.

“It is so important that everyone has the opportunity to take part in activities to get their bodies moving. As a district council, we are committed to making our services and amenities accessible and inclusive for all our district residents.”

Booking is recommended but not required.
