IT WAS dogs galore and much more at the Vale Wildlife Hospital’s annual open day on Sunday (July 6) in Beckford which raised more than £20k toward running costs.

As well as a look behind the scenes of one of the busiest animal rescue centres in the UK, there was also plenty of family entertainment on offer, including a fun dog show, food stalls, traders, live music, plus a dog demonstration and dance group.

Classes for the dog show include the best rescue, waggiest tail, most gorgeous girl and handsome boy.

In addition to a vast number of four-legged friends of all shapes and sizes, a giant badger, fox and hedgehog made special guest appearances much to the delight of young and old alike.

Manager Natalie Gould: “We had over 70 charity, craft and trader stalls and, although we had a couple of light showers, it didn’t deter people from attending. It was fantastic to look around to see lots of smiling faces and wagging tails.

“We think this was probably our busiest open day to date and we’re already planning for 2026. We raised £21,325.19, which is just fantastic.

“A big thanks has to go to our amazing team of staff and all the volunteers who gave up their day to help us, it really was a fantastic day and we couldn’t do it without everyone’s amazing support.”

The event is the charity’s main fundraiser of the year which is entirely reliant on the public for support.
