Henley arts event to help save the Guild Hall roof

Stratford Editorial 23rd Nov, 2022   0

ALL the proceeds from the next Henley Art4All are going towards repairing the Guild Hall roof.

The roof of the 15th century timber building is in desperate need of replacement. The Guild Hall Trust is launching a whole range of fundraising projects to raise the necessary funds to carry out the works and preserve the historic building for the next generation.

And as a result, organisers of the annual Henley Arts4All event have decided to donate all their proceeds to the Guild Hall Trust Roof Project.

Plans are well under way for the event which takes place in April at The Memorial Hall in Henley.

The programme begins on Monday April 17 with Mrs Churchill – My Life with Winston, performed by Liz Grand and directed by Chris Jaegar.

Friday April 21 sees the return of the UK’s longest running Musical Theatre Concert Tour in the form of Beyond the Barricade, which features past principal performers from Les Misérables and delivers the best of Broadway and the West End.

Back by special request on Saturday April 22, following her last visit to Henley, will be Christine Bovill. Her performance of Piaf received a standing ovation in the town and the show sold out at the Edinburgh Fringe.

Mark Farrelly also returns with his portrayal of Derek Jarman – film maker, painter, gardener at Prospect Cottage and gay rights activist. He will take to the stage on Thursday April 20.

There will be a Soul and Motown evening on Tuesday April 18.

While on Wednesday April 20 is the three in one evening. The night will begin with one of Alan Bennett’s classic Talking Heads monologues, A Lady of Letters – Performed by Sheena Ison and Directed by Laurence Marshall.

Following a short interval, Arts4All regular, local performer Theo Theobald will talk about his experience as a former BBC Presenter, Stand up Comedy Coach, Poet Laureate of Worcester and author.

The final presentation of the three in one evening will be by Debbie Bird who will share her experiences of transitioning into an empowered woman, with raw humour and engaging honesty.
