Hammer-wielding robbers attack shopkeeper

Laura Kearns 23rd Jan, 2018

HAMMER-wielding masked robbers attacked a shopkeeper in Welford.

Three robbers with their faces covered targeted Maypole Stores on High Street at around 8.30pm on Monday (January 22).

A man in his 50s was hit in the incident and suffered minor injuries to his hands and arms.

The robbers wore dark clothes and took cash before fleeing the scene towards Bidford in a Mercedes 4×4.

Det Sgt Richard Simpkins said: “Fortunately, the victim only suffered minor injuries but he has been left feeling shaken.

“The shop is on the main road through Welford so someone passing by may have seen the incident or seen the men coming or going from the store.

“I would like to appeal for anyone who saw anything suspicious to get in touch with us as soon as possible.”

Call police on 101 with information or ring Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
