NATURE-LOVING pupils at Holy Trinity Primary School in Stratford put their biodiversity knowledge to the test.
They took part in Eco Buddies, a free educational programme by housebuilder Orbit Homes.
During the session pupils were able to learn more about the vital role plants and animals play in keeping the planet healthy and what they themselves could do to promote greater biodiversity.
Pupils then teamed up with volunteers from Orbit and teachers to build and decorate their own bird boxes.
The new ‘Eco Buddies’ also got an insight into sustainable construction and how Orbit works to integrate eco-friendly features into its new homes and developments, such as hedgehog highways and bug hotels.
Rose Cottrell, science and geography teacher, said: “Our pupils really enjoy learning about nature so ‘Eco Buddies’ came as a wonderful opportunity for them to broaden their knowledge of the environment and develop their understanding of biodiversity.
They absolutely loved the bird box activity because it gave them the chance to get hands-on with the idea of protecting wildlife.”
