Girls football expanding in Stratford to meet increased demand

GIRL’S football is expanding in Stratford to meet increased demand.

Stratford Town Women and Girls Football Club received a £1,000 donation from Persimmon Homes South Midlands as part of its Community Champions initiative.

And this means the club can now launch additional teams as women’s football takes off around the globe.

The Stratford team is growing rapidly, with over 130 girls training and playing regular football across all age groups. Currently, the club plays in the Coventry and Warwickshire girls’ league, represented by young women attending 38 different schools across Warwickshire, Gloucestershire and Worcestershire.

The growth of women’s football – thanks to major events such as the UEFA Women’s Euro 2022 won by England’s Lionesses – has seen increased demand for the club, which is volunteer-run.

The club takes part in fundraising activities throughout the year which have helped to pay for new equipment, kit and training opportunities for the team.

And now the £1,000 from Persimmon Homes will help to launch additional teams to meet the increasing demand – allowing some girls the chance to play league football for the first time.

Charlie Jones, Club Chairperson, said: “We are so grateful to Persimmon Homes and their kind donation of £1,000 via their Community Champions Fund. The support that Persimmon has given us will allow us to build on our success in 2023, offering more teams the chance to further their personal development, teamwork and athletic ability.”

Amanda Rogers, Sales Director at Persimmon Homes South Midlands, added: “What we do is about much more than just building homes, it’s about leaving a lasting positive legacy in the communities that we build in. We’re always delighted to lend a hand to local community groups to boost their ongoing initiatives or contribute to causes that mean a lot to them.

“It’s great to be able to offer this support to Stratford Town Women and Girls Football Club and we wish them all the best for the future.”
