Free parking available in Leamington during the festive season

FREE parking is available to Christmas shoppers, visitors and businesses in Leamington while demolition works continue at the Covent Garden car park.

Until December 28 (excluding December 25 and 26), Warwick District Council will make available more than 80 parking bays at its former HQ at Riverside House on Milverton Hill. These will be available at no cost, seven days a week, from 8am to 7pm to give residents and commuters additional spaces to park during the busy festive period.

The council is currently progressing works to reduce the height of the of the Covent Garden multi-storey building, closed in 2023, to bring the lower two levels back into use for long-stay parking. This has resulted in a temporary closure of a section of the adjacent Covent Garden Surface Car Park to allow contractors DSM Demolition Ltd to carry out the demolition and associated works safely.

WDC’s neighbourhood spokesperson Coun Will Roberts said: “We want to thank neighbours, businesses and regular users of the Covent Garden Car park for their patience and understanding while we complete this work. Although the project is progressing well, we will not be able to fully reopen the surface car park before the New Year.

“December is a critical time for our town centre shops, services and hospitality and we want to do everything we can to boost footfall and the local economy in the run up to the festive season. We hope that local people will make use of the new free parking option made available to them this year.”
