Free activities for youngsters on free school meals in Stratford district

Stratford Editorial 21st Dec, 2023   0

ACTIVITIES for children eligible for free school meals are available at leisure centres across the district this Christmas.

As part of the national Holiday Activities and Food programme, several leisure centres – managed by Everyone Active in partnership with Stratford District Council – are hosting free activities accompanied by free lunches.

The participating centres include Stratford Leisure Centre, Shipston Leisure Centre, Southam Leisure Centre and The Greig Leisure Centre. Each centre is offering something different, from free swim or gym sessions to TAG Active games and swim discos.

The initiative aims to ensure that children from families who are eligible for free school meals can enjoy an active and engaging Christmas break, promoting both physical wellbeing and social interaction.

To ensure children receive balanced meals, Everyone Active will also provide free lunches daily.

SDC’s spokesperson Coun Lorraine Grocott said: “School holidays can be tricky times as budgets tighten, especially during the Christmas break and we want to help families be active, healthy and well.

“The Holiday Activity and Food programme is a fantastic initiative that not only keeps children active and engaged but also ensures they receive nourishing meals during the holidays. We are pleased to offer this opportunity with our leisure centres to eligible children and encourage parents to secure their spots quickly before they fill up.”
