Footballers kick off support for foodbank with donation

Stratford Editorial 22nd Dec, 2017   0

KIND-hearted footballers have put down the ball and picked up a shopping basket to support those in need.

Players and coaches for Wellesbourne Wanderers were so inspired by an article in The Observer about the plight of local foodbanks that they decided to start collecting items to donate.

They recently handed over a hefty donation of long-life goods to support those in the surrounding villages over the festivE period.

Club chairman Tony Parry said: “I was unaware of the level of need in Wellesbourne, Kineton and the surrounding villages and your editorial and having spoken to people since has helped to raise awareness.

“It was also good to be able to explain to my 11-year-old son how lucky he is compared to some children as he can go to the cupboard and find things there whereas some children find nothing.

“Hopefully we have helped in some way to make Christmas a bit better for people in the area.”
