FIVE trees will be felled across the district as maintenance work begins.
Following tree inspections by Stratford District Council, essential work will be carried out on 20 trees in public open spaces in Stratford, Alcester and Shipston from now until the end of March 2026.
The works will be undertaken on behalf of SDC by Warwickshire County Council forestry operatives and will only be carried out on trees that are diseased or structurally weak.
While the likelihood of injury from trees is very low, many trees in the district grow in parks or next to footpaths, where falling branches could pose a serious risk. To manage this, the council employs an independent arboricultural consultant to carry out regular inspections and identify any trees that may present a danger.
Where possible, remedial work will be carried out to remove dangerous branches or correct poor growth. However, in some cases, the entire removal of the tree may be necessary and only as a last resort.
Five trees will be felled, while others will have limbs removed and crowns reduced.
All trees removed will be replaced in due course, as part of SDC’s ongoing commitment to maintaining and enhancing the district’s green spaces.
SDC’s environment spokesperson Coun Lorraine Grocott said: “We understand how much our residents value the trees and green spaces in our district. These works are essential to ensure public safety while preserving the natural beauty of our parks. We are committed to replacing any trees that are removed and continuing to care for our environment responsibly.”
