A DEDICATED fundraiser is a marathon away from banking a huge £10,000 for Alzheimer’s.
Sarah Carrington-Gull, from Pathlow, has raised over £8,000 for The Alzheimer’s Society and Alzheimer’s Research UK since spring 2020.
The 59-year-old has organised everything from quizzes to cricket matches and raffles to running events.
And Sarah is now within sight of her ultimate £10,000 fundraising target. As a result, she is preparing to run the London Marathon in October to reach that goal – with a special “memory mile” twist.
Sarah, who works at the NFU in Stratford, was inspired to support the charity after losing several family members to the disease in quick succession.
She said: “My beautiful mum Hilary and my funny auntie Averil both lived with Alzheimer’s during the latter years of their lives. They died two months apart in 2020. My uncle Wally passed away in July 2021 with Alzheimer’s. His wife my auntie Molly also passed away in 2020 and lived with Dementia.”
As part of her fundraising, Sarah is offering supporters the chance to sponsor one of her 26 marathon miles in memory of a loved one. The names of each dedicated ‘memory mile’ will be printed on Sarah’s t-shirt for the race.
Sarah continued: “Alzheimer’s is a cruel disease- heart-breaking and stressful for friends and family to witness and devastating for those living with it. There must be a cure, but to find it requires research, which requires funding. My fundraising over the last few year’s has been my way to contribute to that goal as an individual.
“I am 59 and I’m no runner! But I’m determined to make the most of this bucket list opportunity to raise the profile of Alzheimer’s, Dementia and to raise funds for research. I’d like to thank everyone for their support with my fundraising over the last few years. Your donations make such a huge difference.”
