CREEPY crafts are lurking in wait at Shakespeare’s Schoolroom and Guildhall this half term holiday.
Young wizards, witches, ghosts and ghouls can take part in this fiendish family friendly activity from Saturday October 19 to Sunday November 3.
There will be bats hanging from the rafters and spiders spinning their webs in the Master’s Chamber, which is where the creepy crafts will take place.
Arty youngsters can choose between making their own batty bat or spooky spider to take home or add it to the display.
Spiders and bats feature vividly in Shakespeare’s plays so there is lots to take inspiration from. For example, in a Midsummer Night’s Dream spiders are described as “long legged spinners” and the “wool of bat” is one of the deadly ingredients, alongside “eye of newt and toe of frog” in the spell chanted by the three witches in Macbeth.
And in the room where Shakespeare would once have chanted his Latin lessons, visitors can look out for the witches’ marks, which were etched onto the walls during the 15th century as a way to ward off evil.
