A BUMPER crop of knitted vegetables is going on display at Charlecote Park.

Crafters from local groups including Wellesbourne WI, Bridgetown WI and the Woolpack Group have created over 200 seasonal veg out of felt, crochet or knitting and they will go on display at the National Trust property from Saturday (October 21).

Charlecote Park reached out to local community groups earlier this summer, asking for help to create an autumn display that would sustainably celebrate the season.

Charlecote Park spokesperson Bryony Goodwin said: “Gourd and pumpkin displays are popular at this time of year with Halloween just around the corner. But the scariest part of this season can be the amount of food waste and the impact on climate change this can bring.

“With help from our local community groups, we’ve created a more sustainable display to celebrate the season. We plan to reuse these community creations in future years to help us reduce food waste and delight our visitors.”

The display is open to visitors from 10.30am until 4.30pm from Saturday (October 21) to Sunday November 5, in the Victorian Kitchen at Charlecote Park.

Several handmade vegetables will also be available to purchase for a suggested donation in the Servants’ Hall shop next door to the display.
