Community events for older Wellesbourne residents receive the support of Age UK

OLDER residents in Wellesbourne and Walton can still enjoy much-loved community events thanks to Age UK.

Wellesbourne and Walton Community Cares has received the support of Age UK Coventry and Warwickshire to continue to put on its annual Holiday at Home and OSCARS Tea Party events.

The charity will not only provide staff members to offer practical assistance but give financial backing to the events over the next two years.

Michael Garrett, chief executive at Age UK Coventry and Warwickshire, said: “We are delighted to be supporting Wellesbourne and Walton Community Cares in delivering these wonderful activity days. These events make a real difference in people’s lives by fostering social connection and alleviating loneliness. Through this partnership, we are proud to contribute both practical support and funding, helping to ensure these valued services and gatherings continue long into the future.”

Wendy Biddington, spokesperson for WWCC added: “We’re very pleased to have the support of Age UK Coventry and Warwickshire. Their backing helps us to continue delivering events that are greatly valued and mean a lot to people who may be isolated or less able to get out and about.”

The OSCARS Tea Parties, held several times a year, offer themed social afternoons with entertainment and refreshments. The Holiday at Home event runs across three consecutive days and provides a holiday style experience for older residents who may be unable to travel.

Both have become cherished fixtures in the community, offering opportunities for companionship, activities and meaningful social interaction.
