SUPPORT for charities and community groups in Stratford is growing fast.

Businesses Supporting Stratford, the brainchild of town businessman Denys Shortt, now has pledges from 20 businesses wanting to help charities, sports groups and schools.

Businesses signed up to the scheme offer £5,000 a year in cash or services – from printing costs to accountancy help – with many pledging more. Donations to date top £40,000.

Those seeking support have been split into six categories – charities and healthcare, education and apprenticeships, local events, nature and the environment, sports and the arts and Shakespeare.

DCS Group owner Mr Shortt said: “It’s great to see new businesses wanting to join Supporting Stratford. We have three new members – Simplify IT, Rosconn Group and Grenfell James Associates. It shows businesses are pulling together to help the community.”

Motoring journalist and TV presenter Quentin Wilson is among those who have joined the scheme, along with NFU Mutual, Guy Salmon Land Rover, Barclays, DCS Group, Alscot Estate, Baraset Barn, FirstlookTV, Vale Press, Enable Software, BDR Group, FPS Distribution, KPMG, Touch FM, Glued Brand Communications, Grenfell James, Perfect Personnel, Rosconn Group, Simplify IT and Wheaton, Lamb and Burrows.
