Alcester Town Council wins Council of the Year award

CHAMPAGNE corks were popping at the latest meeting of Alcester Town Council.

The council has been named ‘Council of the Year’ at the National Association of Local Council’s (NALC) Star Council Awards.

The NALC awards are the only UK awards that recognise local council’s contributions to their communities.

And judges noted that Alcester Town Council was “unusual” in how much it was prepared to do for its residents.

The council was commended for employing a health and wellbeing co-ordinator to organise activities and events, representing and supporting existing groups and societies that promote health and well-being, helping to initiate, develop and lead on any new projects and services, and putting forward the wishes and needs of the local community through consultation and two-way communication.

While projects which attracted the judges’ attention were Cook and Eat Your Tea – which helps different groups of people to cook together and then sit down and eat the meal they have prepared – The Well-Connected Computer Group and The Repair Café Alcester.

A spokesperson for the council said they were “absolutely delighted” to have been named Council of the Year.

“Thank you very much to everyone who voted for us.”
