Aeronautical delights to be served up at Stratford tearoom

AERONAUTICAL delights will be served up amid the teas at a Stratford cafe this weekend.

Airplane model enthusiasts are in for a treat at Hathaway Tearooms in High Street on Saturday (December 3) when proprietor Sarah McMillan will be exhibiting a collection of over 50 highly-finished, large-scale airplane models – the gift of a much-loved family friend.

And the display – which features a model airplane with a wingspan of five foot – coincides with the one year anniversary of Sarah taking over the tearoom.

She said: “The collection comprises electrically-powered remote control aircraft and smaller models, all made by my friend, a warm and generous soul who was particularly gifted in all manner of modelling and who spent thousands of hours immersed in his much-loved pursuit.

“Coincidentally, it will be our one-year anniversary since we opened our doors and there will be live music both days to bring in the party mood.”

The models will be eventually sold, according to the anonymous benefactor’s wishes, to raise much-needed funds for the Haematology and Oncology wards at Birmingham Children’s Hospital where a member of Sarah’s family received life-saving treatment.
