A PERSON had to be cut from the wreckage following a multi-vehicle pile up on the A46 near Stratford this afternoon (Friday).
The road between Bishopton and Snitterfield is currently still closed in both directions as emergency services attend the scene.
Warwickshire Police used its social media channels to warn drivers of the incident, saying the road will be closed for a prolonged period.
The post read: “The A46 is closed in both directions between Bishopton and Snitterfield and is likely to be closed for some time following a multiple vehicle collision. Please avoid the area north of Stratford between the Marraway Warwick Road junction and the Bishopton junction with Birmingham Road. We are on scene with our colleagues from Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service.”
A spokesman for Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service continued: “Warwickshire Fire and Rescue service was alerted around 1pm on Friday October 10 to reports of an road traffic collision on the A46 Stratford Bypass near Stratford.
“The service had three crews attend the scene who, upon arrival, found a RTC involving four vehicles with one of the vehicle occupants mechanically trapped within the car. The crews freed the person who was delivered into the care of the West Midlands Ambulance Service.”
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman added: “On arrival, crews found a man, who required the assistance of the fire service to be cut free from one of the vehicles.
“Once removed from the car, ambulance staff treated him for serious injuries and he was conveyed to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire.
“A second man was treated by crews for injuries not believed to be serious and conveyed to the same hospital.
“A third patient, a woman, was assessed but was not injured and so was discharged at the scene.”
