A 100 cards celebrate 100 years for one Shipston resident

A 100-YEAR-old Shipston care home resident received a birthday card for every year of her life.

To celebrate her 100th year, Low Furlong care home threw a big party for resident Mary Hunt, where she was surrounded by friends and family.

She was treated to a large birthday cake by the home’s chef, a trifle, babycham and Bucks Fizz – all of which are Mary’s favourites.

But the cherry on the top was the 100 birthday cards Mary received to wish her well.

The care home had reached out to the local community to make Mary’s day extra special and they were overwhelmed with the amount of people who obliged and sent a card.

Now Low Furlong will be working on a project to display the cards in Mary’s room as a reminder of a truly special day.

Home Manager Leanne Braham, said: “It’s important to us that we properly celebrate when one of our residents reach such a milestone. We have a ‘100 wall’ at the home and since 2015 when the home opened, we have had 11 residents celebrate birthdays of 100 plus. When residents reach 100, they get added to the wall of fame and their picture hangs in a gold frame.”
