KINETON Amateur Dramatic Society is staging the first regional production of Paul King’s critically-acclaimed new play Suffragettes! – marking the centenary of women getting the vote.
Suffragettes! tells the story of the Pankhurst family and the Women’s Social and Political Union (WSPU), which employed direct action to be heard.
Director Deborah Deeley said: “Staging this play has been both enjoyable and a real eye-opener into the uphill battle the women faced and the tensions among the Pankhurst women who fundamentally disagreed on the tactics to be employed.
“Suffragettes! is both entertaining and educational, not least to see what our forebears went through to get us the vote.”
The production, at Kineton Village Hall, runs from April 26 to 28.
