“You have a lot of artists today that have the ability to release four or five albums in the span of 18 months. Prince was already there decades ago.” So said Public Enemy’s Chuck D.

And if proof were needed then its supplied by the dusting down of Diamonds and Pearls, the 13th album by the prolific late singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist.

The Minneapolis-based songsmith’s 1991 outing, the first with his new backing band, The New Power Generation, featured six singles, including the hits Gett Off, Cream, and the iconic title track.

The album was a worldwide smash reaching multi-platinum status in the USA and the UK, where it remains his best-selling album.

And now it represents the third deep dive into Prince’s vault – following 1999 and Sign of the Times – presented in various editions, including a Super Deluxe Edition (7CD+Blu-ray /12LP+Blu-ray) for the super fan.
