Netflix Considering Changing Tack by Launching Cheaper Tariff

Stratford Editorial 31st May, 2022   0

Netflix has been at the vanguard of the streaming revolution, and it has an extensive range of documentaries and films in its library for people to enjoy at their leisure.

With a huge number of on-demand shows, viewers have been spoilt for choice and Netflix has been embroiled in a streaming battle with other platforms. Over the past few years, Netflix has been increasing the price of its subscription packages for users, with a basic deal now costing £6.99 per month for UK users, with the premium rising to £15.99 per month, and there has been a clampdown on households sharing accounts.

At a time where living costs have been soaring, this is arguably quite a lot to ask of people when they would probably prefer to tighten their belts rather than splurge their hard-earned cash.

But now it seems that Netflix has realised that they may have made a misjudgement, and they are considering changing tack by launching a cheaper tariff to help quell consumer unrest.

To a certain extent, it has been troubling times for the streaming giants, and there have also been reports that some Netflix subscribers are considering cancelling their accounts if the platform becomes ad-funded.

Overall, the streaming battleground has intensified with Amazon Prime, Disney +, and others pumping out swathes of original content to keep consumers happy. Also, it has perhaps helped that Amazon and Disney are cheaper from a subscription point of view.

More recently, Apple TV+, DAZN and Hayu have also surged in popularity, and with the latter, there are mountains of reality TV shows for viewers at the click of a button. But it’s not just TV streaming where we have noticed new tactics pop up. No, this has carried over into the world of eSports as people in their droves have been flocking to platforms such as Twitch to tune into the latest competitions.

Ultimately, subscription prices and the talk of giving customers a better deal is nothing new. At some of the best digital casinos, for example, players are free to try out the best slots online, where they will be able to play a smorgasbord of titles in demo mode first before competing for real money.

As far as streaming goes, the goalposts keep shifting and Netflix doesn’t want to lose ground on its rivals. Pandering to the needs of consumers isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but whether people will see through a cheaper deal being offered as just a gimmick, well, only time will tell.
