Mark Steel at RSC in Stratford on Avon

COMEDIAN Mark Steel will no doubt be up for some topical chat when he performs Live at the RSC in Stratford.

The writer and stand-up – fresh from his award-winning Radio 4 comedy show Mark Steel’s In Town and sell-out run at the Edinburgh Fringe – is heading to the Royal Shakespeare Theatre on Sunday October 11.

Steel has also presented the BAFTA nominated Mark Steel Lectures on the BBC, and has appeared on Have I Got News For You, QI and Radio 4’s Newsquiz.

He started doing stand-up in 1982 – in his own words “going on after jugglers and escapologists and people that banged nails into their ear”.

He obviously made an impression as the venues got more high profile – the Comedy Store and Jongleurs – and then followed radio and television.

A committed socialist, he has also appeared on Question Time, and will probably have a few observations to share on Jeremy Corbyn’s elevation to Labour leader.

He has written several acclaimed books, including Reasons To Be Cheerful and What’s Going On, and writes a weekly column for The Independent.

Steel will be supported by Seann Walsh, who has appeared on Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow and Mock The Week, and the evening will be hosted by Shappi Khorsandi, cultural commentator and ‘Britain’s best young female comic’ according to The Guardian.
