Fairport Convention stop off in Stratford on WinTour

Stratford Editorial 23rd Feb, 2024   0

FOLK rock pioneers Fairport Convention stop off at Stratford Playhouse on Sunday March 3 as part of their Winter Tour.

This year’s customary WinTour comes hot off the heels of a more intimate, stripped back acoustic excursion throughout England, Scotland and Wales during the Autumn.

It will again see celebrated former-drummer Dave Mattacks join the proceedings, having first returned to the stool last year. Mattacks featured as Fairport Convention’s longstanding percussionist throughout most of the 70s, 80s and 90s, and his skills have been in demand ever since, having contributed to numerous studio recordings by the likes of Paul McCartney, Brian Eno, Elton John and Nick Drake.

The set promises a mix of long-established Fairport favourites together with some surprises from albums old and new.

Support will come from Plumhall – Michelle Plum and Nick B. Hall – who combine acoustic and electric instruments with occasional electronica.

Their two studio albums ‘Thundercloud’ and ‘The Ghost of Noise’ – earned the duo numerous plaudits, including The ‘Hidden Gem’ Award from The Guardian/Observer.
