Getting Started
We spend more time on our phones than we do on pretty much everything else. They’re essential for getting by in the modern age and connecting us to family and friends.
Getting a brand-new model is exciting, but you may wonder where to start. Here’s our guide on how to use it.
Move your Data Over
You’ll want to keep your messages and contacts on your new iPhone or Android when starting afresh. You’ll need to move your data over before you do anything else. Use a cable, wireless connection, or an iCloud backup.
If you’re transferring from your old iPhone to a new one, use Apple’s Quick Start. The process will occupy both phones for several minutes, so schedule it when you don’t need to call or respond to messages. Turn on your new iPhone and place it near your current device with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth enabled.
On-screen instructions will give you two options. Downloading from iCloud will load apps and data in the background while transferring directly from your device will take a bit longer and require the creation of an exact copy.
Turn on both phones if you’re transferring from an old Android to a new one. On the new device, choose your language, set the date and time, connect to Wi-Fi, and sign in or create a Google account. Pick a security option (e.g., password, PIN, Face ID, or fingerprint). Follow the instructions until you reach Set up using another device. On the “choose what to copy” screen, select the data to transfer (like apps, contacts, and media). Hit “Next” to start the transfer.
If you’re transferring from Android to Apple or vice versa, you’ll need the “Switch to Android” app or to find the Quick Start screen on your iPhone and choose “Set Up Without Another [Apple] Device > From Android.”
Perform a System Update
If your new phone has been out for a while and you just bought it, it may need an update. Although it may seem like an inconvenience, it provides important security features.
The updates will fix identified bugs in the operating system and prevent security breaches that
hack your information. Before updating your iPhone, back up your data using iCloud or your computer.
Download the Apps You Need
Now things get a bit more fun! The best way to familiarise yourself with a new phone is by downloading apps like music platforms and social media. Don’t forget must-haves like banking apps and internet browsers.
While looking for new apps, why not look for casino games, including roulette and blackjack? They are a great way to keep entertained in your free time and give you the chance to win prizes.
Put Security Measures in Place
As with any electronic device, you must implement measures to protect your phone data. Set up a PIN or password as soon as possible to prevent unauthorised access. You can also set up a recovery process in case your phone breaks or is stolen.
We also recommend storing all of your passwords in an encrypted password manager. For an extra layer of protection, download apps that prevent malware and safeguard data.
