Local solar energy project aims to give back to the community, as well as investors

The UK’s largest community-owned renewable energy project, based just outside of Stratford-upon-Avon and set up by Warwickshire locals, has just released a £1m bond offer – allowing investors a chance to make a healthy investment whilst supporting the local community. The project aims to generate £2.7m of potential profits over 25 years for local good causes.

The bond, launched in partnership with Mongoose Energy – the UK’s largest manager of community-owned renewable energy assets – is a smart investment option, delivering projected interest rates of 5% over four years. The funds raised will be used to finance the solar farm, whilst all surplus profit will go towards community projects such as improving the health of local elderly and vulnerable people living in cold and damp homes, reducing their energy bills and improving heating and insulation. The launch coincides with a surge in popularity of investing to ‘do good’ and not just to make a profit. Research from Mongoose Energy shows that over two thirds (66%) of people in Warwickshire would prefer their investments to make a positive impact on others.

Tony Guy, Heart of England Community Energy board member, commented: “This bond launch gives residents a really exciting opportunity to invest in a financially savvy option that will have a huge impact locally, helping support the elderly and vulnerable who struggle to afford sufficiently heated homes.”

Mark Kenber, CEO of Mongoose Energy, commented: “Heart of England Community Energy provides Warwickshire residents with an opportunity to earn competitive interest rates, whilst knowing that their investment will have a positive impact on their community.”
