Alcester musician shortlisted for international song competition

Stratford Editorial 27th Aug, 2021   0

A MUSICIAN from Alcester has been shortlisted for an international song competition inspired by John Lennon.

Singer-songwriter Jack Blackman has reached the final 50 of the ‘International Song For Kindness’ competition launched in memory of the late Beatle.

Jack’s song, ‘Give a Little Kindness’ was chosen out of over 1,500 entries worldwide.

The aim of the contest – which celebrates over 50 years since the launch of Lennon’s single ‘Imagine’ – is to find a new song that inspires a message of hope, unity and kindness.

Jack said: “I was absolutely thrilled when I heard the news. I wrote and entered the song back in March, so I had all but forgotten the competition until they told me I was in the final 50!

“I was inspired to write it after hearing of their aim to find a new song that inspires a message of hope, unity and kindness. After such a terrible year, I wanted to write an uplifting and catchy anthem that could provide hope to people.

“There is a nod to John Lennon in it, listeners will have to identify the various Beatle-isms! But it does stand on it’s own too.”

The top 10 will be announced in September.

The 27-year-old guitarist has performed across the UK and as far as the Mississippi Delta. Closer to home, Jack works with Stratford-based charity Street Arts where he supports homeless, socially isolated and vulnerable people through music.
