RAP music is being employed by council chiefs in Warwickshire in a bid to stop the spread of coronavirus.
With concerns nationally that young people in particular are becoming complacent about the pandemic, Warwickshire County Council wanted to get the message across that Covid-19 had not gone away.
So they have turned to Coventry-based rap artist Aaron Woodhouse who has picked up the mic to help raise awareness of the simple steps needed to stay safe.
Aaron, who works for his family business, has been producing music for a couple of years and is well known locally.
When the opportunity to collaborate with him came up, council chiefs were quick to act, and were more than happy with Aaron’s resulting track ‘Raise The Awareness’.
County council leader Izzi Seccombe said: “As an organisation we push boundaries, challenge perceptions and strive to be creative when engaging with our communities. Sometimes we even surprise ourselves with the collaborations we make.
“In this instance we were looking to target younger audiences and harder to reach communities with essential Covid-19 messages. From the initial concepts, to the creative Aaron has delivered is incredible.
“He really has captured where we are now as a community and the essential messages people need to take on board around hand washing, social distancing and keeping each other safe.
Aaron said he had been surprised to get the call from the council.
“It was completely out of the blue. Covid-19 has had a real impact on our everyday living and like everyone, I have struggled not being able to see my parents and grandparents. So, to be able to play my part and tell my story with the help of family and friends from across the world has been incredible. I just hope it makes a real impact and gets people thinking about their community.”
