PEOPLE in Warwickshire are living longer but spending more of that time in ill health.
The Director of Public Health’s annual report reveals the life expectancy for women is 83 years, but only 66 of those are in good health. For men 80 years is the average expectancy, with 64 of those spent healthy.
The report also shows 62 per cent of the some 570,000 residents in Warwickshire are classed as overweight or obese.
In the county 14 per cent of the population smoke, and ten per cent of women also continue to light up while they are pregnant.
And in south Warwickshire ten per cent of the population suffer with depression – higher than anywhere else across Coventry and Warwickshire.
Stratford, Warwick and Rugby are also higher than the England average of 40 out of 10,000 people dying on the roads. In Rugby and Stratford the figure is 75, while in Warwick it is 50.
Interim director for public health, Helen King, and Warwickshire County Council adult social care spokesman Les Caborn say the report this year shows having a job can improve health and wellbeing.
Coun Caborn said: “This report is a valuable tool to review and identify the health and wellbeing of our residents. The theme of this year’s annual report explores the impact of work on the health and wellbeing of the working age population.
“There is a strong relationship between work, health and wellbeing. Being in a secure good quality job has a positive impact on health. Together we are working for wellbeing in Warwickshire.”
