Wassailers mark Twelfth Night in Stratford

Stratford Editorial 11th Jan, 2018   0

FESTIVE folk brought the curtain-down on Christmas with a sing-song in Stratford.

The RSC invited choirs from across the midlands to mark Twelfth Night – currently playing at the RST – on Saturday (January 6) by singing traditional wassailing songs and carols which were followed by a winter procession and special ceilidh

Roughly translated as ‘be in good health’, wassailing is an English tradition taking place on the Twelfth Night of Christmas, which involves singing to the health of apple trees in the hope that they might yield a good harvest.

The event included four specially commissioned arrangements from ex-Bellowhead member and choral arranger Paul Sartin. The

ceilidh at The Other Place featured music provided by English folk band Faustus.
