STRATFORD Town Colts U14s maintained their good form and ended the year on a high with a 6-3 victory over hosts Bidford in Pool A of the Ambassador Evesham League.
Stratford had never beaten Bidford before but they were soon on their way to a third successive win when Alfie Organ broke the deadlock with a well-worked goal.
Early in the second half Jack Vernon extended Stratford’s lead with a good strike from outside the area. Kicking with the wind and down the slope, Stratford took control of the game with Archie Jones rampaging down the right, Joe Lewis doing likewise on the left and defensive midfielders Callum Harrison and Daniel Larkin tidying up everything in the centre of the park.
Captain Rory Hands was a rock at the back whilst keeper Tom Maher and defenders Ruben Herdman and Hunter Binks always looked in control, allowing the midfield of man of the match Archie Cullen, Eoin Dunne and Sam Shuttleworth the freedom to push forward.
Ewan Ashford grabbed his first goal of the match before Vernon converted his second to give Stratford a comfortable 4-0 lead.
However, Bidford were not finished and a spirited fightback began after Stratford failed to clear at the back. Bidford were pushing forward which left large gaps at the back which Stratford exploited to score a fifth from Ashford and another from Organ, which rendered Bidford’s second and third goals less important.
