Stratford Boat Club to hold Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday events

STRATFORD-upon-Avon Boat Club are holding events to mark this year’s Armistice Day (November 11) and Remembrance Sunday (November 13).

A short act of remembrance and wreath laying will take place at 11am on Friday, November 11 in memory of those who died in the Falklands War.

A piper will play the Last Post and all are welcome at the memorial in the club’s grounds by 10.45am.

The wreath will be laid by Stratford Boat Club’s Masters’ member Graham Cann who was a Colour Sergeant in the Royal Marines during the Falklands War.




As well as Stratford’s own members being present, Kim Casey, sister of Petty Officer Aircrewman Kevin ‘Ben’ Casey, who was one of the first people to die in the Falklands War, will also be in attendance.

And the Boat Club will also host a short act of remembrance and wreath laying at 11am on Remembrance Sunday at the memorial in SuABC grounds and dedication of the plaque for Stratford Boat Club’s Victoria Cross holder.


As mentioned above, a piper will play the Last Post and all are welcome at the memorial in the club’s grounds by 10.45am.

All are welcome and Stratford Boat Club’s wreaths will be laid by the youngest member of the Club and the oldest member of the Club – some 75 years separate their rowing and life experience.

The dedication of the Stratford Boat Club’s Victoria Cross holder is ‘Pongo’ Arthur Scarf  and the club now have a plaque to honour Arthur’s achievements.

Through the auction house that sold Arthur’s VC, the club have been able to trace Arthur’s relatives and his nephew John Hair is coming to lay a dedication wreath.
