Slow, careful return to some rowing

Stratford Editorial 10th Jun, 2020   0

NEW protocols have been put in place at Stratford Boat Club as it follows rules laid down by British Rowing in order to get members back on the water.

It is hoped some limited adaptive rowing can return soon and some one-to-one coaching may be conducted.

British Rowing is still hoping national restrictions will allow the move to Phase C of the return to rowing in July which significantly broadens the scope of what is possible.

Sadly, at the moment, only adult single rowing or family groups in doubles or pairs can be allowed which currently rules out crew boats and the junior squad for which more coaching and safety provision is required.

The club’s Wednesday virtual Zoom circuit sessions are proving to be increasingly popular.

These sessions are tailored to the needs of specific age groups regarding fitness, motivation and positive well-being.

Lucy Weston, the club’s qualified personal trainer, said: “I work closely with the club’s squad coaches to help athletes attain and maintain a high level of fitness.”

Many squads are continuing to interact and contact each other with quizzes and coaches are sending regular training programmes for their squad athletes to follow.
