Lunel enthused by last-four show

Tim Lunel readies himself for the trip to Henley.

STRATFORD Boat Club’s Tim Lunel expressed his delight having reached the semi-finals of the master single sculls at last weekend’s Henley Masters Regatta.

As the sole representative from the club, a win in the quarter-final by a length and a half propelled Lunel into the last four, having pressed on early in the race to lead by a length after surpassing the first 100m of water.

And while he was always up against it taking on three high-level scullers in the semi-final – from Commercial Rowing Club Dublin, Holloway Scullers and Exeter Rowing Club – his approach of going all out from the start did reap some reward when finding himself level with the rest of the pack 200m into the race.

Reflecting on his performance, the Stratford rower accepted that there was still plenty of heart to be taken from the afternoon.

“It was good to be competing in a category won by an international athlete in a year of more limited international entries,” said Lunel.

“My final reflection was that this was a very enjoyable couple of days of racing, and getting to meet up with fellow rowers at Henley.”
